On October 21, 1951, Bharatiya Jana Sangh was inaugurated in Delhi with Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee as its inaugural President. He was also the co-founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In the 1951-52 general elections to the Indian parliament, Bharatiya Jana Sangh secured three seats. In 1967, Jana Sangh attained 35 seats in the 1967 Lok Sabha elections. In 1977, Bharatiya Jana Sangh amalgamated into the Janata Party along with other entities. In 2014, BJP clinched 282 seats under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, steering the NDA to a total of 336 seats. He took office as the 15th PM of India on May 26, 2014. In 2019, BJP made history by independently winning 303 Lok Sabha seats, leading Shri Narendra Modi to resume his role as PM. On May 30, 2019, Shri Amit Shah was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister and assumed office as Minister of Home Affairs on June 1, 2019.
